Today, Governor Jerry Brown released a statement indicating negotiations with Republican legislators regarding the state budget had proven unfruitful. In response, State Senator Noreen Evans issued the following statement:
"Republicans have had months to offer real solutions and negotiation demands to the Governor, but instead waited until the very last minute to present a six page special interest wish list which does nothing to address our budget deficit.
Democratic legislators and the Governor have already solved half the budget deficit with deep and painful cuts. These cuts have been made and signed into law; they are real and permanent. All we are asking of Republicans is to simply let California voters be heard on whether they want to close the remainder with deeper cuts or revenues.
I don't know what is worse - that Republicans have so little regard for the future of our state, or that they have so little regard for the will of the people.
I am committed to working with Democrats in the Legislature, representing the vast majority of Californians, to enact real budget solutions."
