On Friday March 11, 2011 tidal waves resulting from a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami near Japan rushed into Noyo Harbor on California's North Coast causing severe damage to boats and docks that are instrumental to California's fishing industry. In response, State Senator Noreen Evans issued the following statement:
"The tragedy that has devastated Japan has been felt across the Pacific Ocean here in our own Noyo Harbor. We can be thankful that no lives have been lost. I am very concerned about the damage to docking facilities vitally important to our fishing industry. I strongly support the Mendocino Board of Supervisors request for a state emergency declaration and will fight to get all the assistance Noyo Harbor needs.
This morning I sent a letter to Governor Brown urging him to immediately issue a Disaster Declaration for Mendocino County so our North Coast residents can be assured of a speedy recovery from this unfortunate event."
