Last weekend, I had the opportunity to spend time in western Sonoma
County, visiting with residents in Guerneville, Sebastopol, and Roseland to discuss
my campaign for State Senate. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear directly
from community members about the issues they are facing and to talk about different
ideas for solving them. Click here to

my campaign.
During this trip, I was reminded that the failings of our current health care
system continue to make it so difficult for middle class families to make ends
meet. Health care is by almost any measure the defining policy issue of
our day. We must do something now to restore a measure of affordability
to health care for individuals, families and employers, and at the same time
provide access to health care for the uninsured and underinsured.
In the Assembly, I have advanced legislation to empower consumers to better contend
with our difficult health care marketplace. I have also co-sponsored the
bill to create a universal, single-payer system, which the Governor refuses to
sign into law. This plan would provide quality, affordable health care
to all Californians. The cost of this bill in the first year would be equivalent
to what the government and residents of California currently spend on health
care every year. Sonoma County alone would save $20 million annually, which
could instead be spent on job-creating infrastructure projects, local schools,
and much more. To read more about my work on health care reform, click here.
In the State Senate, I will continue to be a leading advocate for access to quality,
affordable health care for the residents of western Sonoma County and all Californians. Please

look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
